Experimental investigation of cavitation formed inside automotive injectors can be performed using scaled-up models manufactured from perspex. Fully transparent nozzles or other hydraulic devises allow for flow visualisation at the areas of interest. Manufacturing of complicated geometries is done with precision using CNC machines. Testing can be done with water or with a special mixture of hydrocarbons having the same refractive index at a given (controlled) temperature. Both flow imaging and quantitative flow measurements (LDV) can be obtained.
