Understanding moderate to high speed phenomena such as explosion and cavitation bubble dynamics, liquid droplet impact, gasoline and diesel spray development is facilitated with still video and high speed movie photography. Major components of this capability include CCD cameras with high magnification lenses, high speed cameras with frame rate up to 120,000fps and exposure time down to 5ns, various light illumination sources with short duration down to 20ns and supporting data acquisition equipment, instrumentation, and sensors including flow meters, pressure gauges and high frequency pressure transducers. Developed image post-processing tools based on Matlab applications and combination with CAD/CFD can allow for fast results and statistical information to be obtained. |
